Ky Lua Market is in Ky Lua ward. According to a geography compiled by Cao Xuan Duc, it dates from the seventeenth century and was founded by the Le governor Than Cong Tai; the book describes it as a market linking north and south, drawing traders from everywhere, the largest in the province, and says later generations built a temple in his honour. Six main sessions are held each month, on lunar dates ending in 2 and 7. People come not only to trade but to meet, catch up and talk business, and young people of different ethnic groups come to meet friends and sing traditional sli and luon love songs. Stalls sell brocade, clothing and local dishes of Lang Son. A Ky Lua fair is held every year from the 22nd to the 27th of the first lunar month. Today the market has been renovated and is open day and night. It appears in a well known folk verse alongside Lady To Thi and Tam Thanh pagoda.
