Cuc Phuong National Park is a protected forest on the border of Ninh Binh, Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa provinces, with rich plant and animal life typical of tropical rainforest. Cuc Phuong forest was established by a decision dated 7 July 1962, creating the first protected area in Vietnam, and it is also the first national park of the country. It now covers 22,200 hectares, of which 11,350 hectares lie in Ninh Binh. Scientists have recorded nearly 2,000 species of vascular plants, along with giant trees such as the cho xanh and cho chi that are protected for visitors to see. In several caves, remains of prehistoric people about 12,000 years old have been found, including graves, stone axes and stone arrowheads. The park was named Asia's leading national park by the World Travel Awards for six years in a row, from 2019 to 2024.
