Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in Duc La hamlet was founded in the eleventh century and grew into a major centre of the Truc Lam Zen school. All three patriarchs of that school, Tran Nhan Tong, Phap Loa and Huyen Quang, used it as a base for teaching and for training monks. The pagoda holds about 3,000 woodblocks covering 34 titles, estimated at some 700 years old, comprising Buddhist scriptures, records of the Truc Lam lineage and medical texts. In 2012 UNESCO inscribed this collection on the Memory of the World register for Asia and the Pacific. The pagoda was ranked a special national relic in 2015.
