Con Son is an islet in the middle of the Hau River about six kilometres from central Can Tho, covering roughly 70 hectares of silt enriched year after year by the current. Rather than a built resort, it works as a community tourism model in which more than a hundred households each take on one part of the experience. Visitors walk through fruit orchards, learn to make traditional cakes, eat a garden lunch and hear residents describe life on the water. The most talked about stop is the fish raft, where snakehead fish leap clear of the surface together at feeding time. The best months to visit run from around April to July, when the orchards come into full fruit.
