Sao Beach lies on the south east coast of Phu Quoc and is among the most talked about bays on the island. It is known for fine white sand, clear water, gentle waves and a long shallow shelf that suits families with small children. A line of coconut palms runs along the shore, giving shade and the framing that makes the beach a favourite for photographs. In 2015 the travel publication CN Travel placed Sao Beach on its list of the ten most pristine and peaceful beaches in the world. Because the bay faces south east, conditions are usually best in the dry season when the sea is calm and rain is rare.
