Cam Mountain, also called Thien Cam Son, rises 705 metres and is the highest peak in the Mekong Delta. Van Linh and Phat Lon pagodas stand on its slopes beside Thuy Liem Lake and a scatter of natural springs, forming an important pilgrimage cluster in the Bay Nui area. The Maitreya Buddha statue measures 33.6 metres and was built between February 2004 and December 2005; by 2013 it was recognised as the largest hilltop Maitreya statue in Vietnam and Asia. A 26.5 metre statue of Avalokitesvara was completed in mid 2013. A cable car finished on 14 February 2015 now carries visitors to the summit without the long climb.
